Required Certifications:

  • Security+ or equivalent certification

  • BISCI Installer, Technician, or equivalent certification

 

Position Description:

As a member of the Service Operations Division, the Data Center Technician is a position that provides data center infrastructure support including: installation, modification, repair, decommission and troubleshooting of data center IT equipment and copper/fiber cabling in support of voice, video and data center services.

Position Requirements:

 

Required skills:

 

  • Provide infrastructure support including: Installation, termination, testing, labeling, and decommissioning of CAT5/6 Copper and Fiber cabling and patch systems.

  • Perform organization, formation, and dressing of cables to defined standards

  • Exhibit quality workmanship for all tasks and maintain data center space cleanliness

  • Troubleshooting of copper and fiber cabling (including multimode and single mode)

  • Installation of Cage, Cabinets, Ladder Rack, Fiber Tray

  • Installation and removal of communications and server equipment into cabinets

  • Installation and removal of pluggable power cabling per defined standards

  • Ability to follow directions and procedures, follow and generate documentation, and maintain schedules

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently, adjust priorities and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent written and spoken interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively with a team

  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels

  • Complete electronic documentation of all work completed for work assigned

  • Report status via email and ticketing system

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, and Excel

  • Must be able to climb ladders and work overhead to perform work tasks

  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies

  • Ability to lift 60-75 lbs.

  • Working in a 24X7 environment; call-in and responding outside of normal business hours may be required for emergency coverage

  • Responsibilities and duties may change, expand, etc.; Flexibility and the ability to adapt is a must

  • Educational/Qualification Requirements:
    Minimum required:

  • GED/HS Diploma

  • Minimum 1-3 years in IT operations or similar role with duties described above.

Preferred:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.

  • Security+ or equivalent certification

  • BISCI Installer, Technician, or equivalent certification
